Organized by Change Club, Darjeeling in collaboration with WWF-India Darjeeling Field Office
Change Club organized a daylong Art exhibition and Competition on the theme “Swachha Bharat” on the 21st of October, 2016 at the Harshing Community hall in Lebong in collaboration with WWF, Darjeeling Field Office. The event was also supported by District Rural Development Cell (DRDC), Swachha Bharat Mission, and Darjeeling. Zero Waste Himalaya was also included in the program.
The event started at 10:30 am with the registration of participating school students and teachers who reached the venue in good numbers. As the registration process was going on, Prishka Subba, President, Change Club welcomed all and introduced the purpose of the event. She also briefed the gathering about the programme schedule while Deepa Sharma from District Rural Development Cell (DRDC), Swachha Bharat Mission, and Darjeeling gave a short speech on the need of Swachha Bharat and the ways to achieve it.
The Chief Guest for the day was renowned artist Kewal Chandra Lama and Guest of Honor included DFO Darjeeling Ram Prasad Badana IAS, Bikash Chettri a prominent social, Harish Subba Forest Range Officer, Bagora Range. Chief Guest Kewal Chandra Lama in his address to the audience gave an inspiring speech on the need to appreciate nature and described art as one of the medium for environmental awareness.
The first event for the day was the art Competition for the students belonging to the class group of 7-12. There were around 45 participants from 7 participating schools. While the drawing events were going on, general public visited the spot and had a look at the art works, exhibits and other matter on display. They had quite a lot of questions to ask and their queries were answered by the volunteers present. Brochures and pamphlets highlighting the importance of water conservation were distributed to everyone who visited the event. As soon as the Sit & Draw and Poster competition were over, all the drawings were displayed separately for everyone to see.
After the Art Competition all the participants and their escorting teachers were taken for lunch. As the students were taken group by group it took about an hour to finish the lunch session. After lunch all the participants assembled in the same venue and eagerly awaited the results of the competition. The results for the competition were declared and various dignitaries present were requested to come up and give away the prizes.
The program ended at 4:00 pm with a vote of thanks to all participating school heads, teachers and students, collaborating partners, volunteers and general public who made the event successful, fun and worthwhile.
